Formal charges have been brought against two men related to a luggage theft where a substance thought to be irritant spray resulted in harm at the major London air hub.

Tyrone Richards, 31, and Anton Clarke-Butcher, 24, have both been charged with two robbery charges and charges for using a harmful chemical, as confirmed by court officials.

This legal action stems from an investigation into an assault at the parking structure at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Prior to the attack, two female travelers had their luggage stolen after getting out of a car park lift, authorities reported.

A young child was among those injured during the incident. Five people required hospital care and were subsequently released.

The incident – which authorities stated was a standalone event and deemed non-terroristic – resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the main airport road tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a brief period.
