The relatives of young people unaccounted for after a devastating blaze at a establishment in a Switzerland's alpine town are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for official news and pleading for information about their loved ones publicly.

The fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Verified footage reveal the roof structure igniting as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.

Officials have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the victims of the fire, which killed 40 people and hurt another 119. Officials stated on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with work ongoing to identify the final individuals.

"A companion informed me they fled after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.

One of his educators commented, "I remember his good nature and positive demeanor, alongside great maturity. He would frequently offer to get me a coffee."

Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss nationality but lives permanently in the country, was also at the bar on that night, according to sources.

Her sibling has shared an urgent request on social media, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.

Consular authorities from her other nation say they are closely watching the situation.
