The President Calls Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the White House

Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.

He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Tragic Incident

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.

White House Invitation

The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Public Support

Community members gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid public safety in DC.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to help others.”

Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Measures and Government Changes

Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.

The incident led the administration to pause asylum applications and halt granting entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader the governor mentioned on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to speak to his relatives.

Impact of Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the military.

“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” he informed the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
