Spurs Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed goalkeeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be real Tottenham fans" by boss Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth top-flight home loss of 2025.
But the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next score when the keeper gave away possession well outside his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball towards the touchline.
However, rather than booting it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six yards.
Seconds later when the ball came to the keeper once more, some Spurs supporters booed him.
The team were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.
One of those jeering sessions truly angered the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently booed the incident and booed following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.
"[They] can't be real Spurs fans that do that. Alright booing following the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second-half performance.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart stated that the next score was "completely avoidable".
"I certainly appreciate the fans' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the role Vicario is performing. He's a excellent team player, he is a real figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.
"The keeper was deeply involved in what turned out to be the winning goal."
'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match
Italy international Vicario is in his third campaign with Spurs.
He said following the match that he had to take the criticism.
"The second score was a error of my own, I take responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor way. It was an even bigger mountain to climb."
He said being booed "is part of the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "We can't be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do what they think.
"It is on us to stay increasingly composed, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. Today is a poor defeat and it is hard to take."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Line'
In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next most distant Premier League score of the season – following Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too came on Saturday.
Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to target.
Ten moments elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for ages," he said.
"I was surprised none of the defenders went back to the goal line. When none of them covered the goal, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a bit of additional time. After that it was all about trying to achieve the correct contact and place it towards goal. I had a good sense, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Work Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank
While the keeper's mistake led headlines, this was an all-round bad day for Spurs to extend their home ground struggles.
The match was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club record matching 1994 and 2003.
They still have home fixtures against the manager's former club Brentford and title holders the Reds to play before the end of the season.
Just a single of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," said the boss.
"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the first was a redirected attempt, the second is a mistake from Vic.
"This result leaves us in a position where we have suffered another match. Every game has a unique story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully something we can use to learn."
Spurs have been defeated in four consecutive at home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording 9.5 attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest rates on file in a one campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He's got take the stick," Murphy said. "He's taken a high profile role at a huge team with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
