Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after that period of 2023.

Success also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, supported by an better serving game.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 early break points in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
