The Australian skipper has secured 309 wickets in 71 Test matches with an average of 22.10.
Australia's selection chief Bailey has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will play a "major part" in the upcoming historic rivalry.
There were concerns that Cummins might sit out due to a ongoing back issue that was still troubling him.
Initial reports from the Australian camp suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches kicking off on the 21st of November in Western Australia.
He revealed that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about his chances of taking part.
"We know that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations at play, not only the back issue, but other factors as well," he commented.
"The outlook is good. We firmly believe that he's going to play a major part. Hopefully starting in Perth. Should that not happen, we'll adjust."
Injury History
The captain missed Australia's limited-overs series against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.
There is a track record of spinal problems, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons forcing him out of three Australian summers in a limited period.
Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to make the squad for the contest.
The selector indicated that there was no confirmation if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his recovery but conceded it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the opener.
Contingency Plans
In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.
Versatile player Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their one-day international series against India as a safety move because of discomfort in his torso.
He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he's scheduled to appear in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to deliver overs."
"We put so much time has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the first Test as an dual-role player," he elaborated.
"He was only going to play the initial matches in any case. His aggressive style the bat in limited-overs, should it hinder progress for another day, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
