Dominant Aryna Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of Dominance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and collected a historic £11m in prize money.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking extended hiatus following the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
